Become a Volunteer!

Donkey Dreamland couldn't operate without a dedicated team of volunteers supporting the vast number of activities required of a working rescue centre.
So why not become a volunteer and join the "Donkey Tribe".

Whilst many volunteers take on the important role of “pooper scooper”, cleaning the paddocks and stables, plus feeding and grooming the donkeys, there are so many equally important (and often forgotten) roles.

Assist our Event Organiser

We have held many events at Donkey Dreamland and at outside venues. These range from exclusive Flamenco Evenings, Summer Parties, Mother’s Day Celebrations, Music Jamming Sessions, Speciality Paella lunches as well as hosting group events on behalf of organisations such as the British Lions Club of La Cala. We currently have an excellent Event manager/Organiser to help with our vital entertainment and fundraising work. But there are always openings to assist. Could you assist in the overseeing and implementing the planning, organisation and presentation of Donkey Dreamland events, both at the Sanctuary or at External Venues? Previously we have held a number of events, for example: Exclusive Flamenco Evenings, A Celebration of Summer, A Celebration of Andalucía and A selection of Paellas as well as collaborations with local quality businesses such as Munchies of Fuengirola and Greenlings Organic Foods. It’s a blank canvas just waiting for your ideas and inspiration.

Fund Raising and Supporter Liaison

A regular flow of funds is the lifeline for the donkeys. We are so lucky to have a number of bars and restaurants dedicated to helping our donkeys. Many hold regular raffles and fundraising events. We would love to find some people to help out by supporting these venues and help us through finding more and helping them to get their fundraising events up and running. Basically we seek volunteers from all areas, including, but not limited to: Estepona, Sotogrande, Benhavis, Marbella, Elviria, Calahonda, La Cala de Mijas, Fuengirola, Benemadena, Torremolinos, Malaga, Velez Malaga and Nerja to name a few. Whereever you live, could you work with bars and restaurants local to you to work with them organizing fund raising events? The local business benefits from footfall and trade and we would benefit from a small cover charge, plus takings from auctions and raffles. Contact us for details.

Charity Stall Helper

We are fortunate to have many amazing volunteers, two of whom run a charity market stall in La Cala de Mijas twice a month – but they do so much more for us too – and they would really appreciate some help. Could you spare a couple of hours when the charity market is held (currently the last Wednesday and Saturday mornings of the month). Could you help source quality donations that could be sold at the stall. Mary and Wietse would really appreciate your help.

There is always work to do around the paddocks, whether this be repairing fencing, building new shelters, erecting shades, fixing water leaks and repairing weather damage, to name just a few. This is an area where we are always short of volunteers, so if you have any of these skills or know of anyone who does and who may be interested in volunteering, we would love to know!

Donkey Welfare (Scoop the Poop!)

This is a daily requirement. Join our existing team of volunteers clearing paddocks, cleaning stables and learn about applying treatments with a view to assisting with these in due course. Plus help keep all areas of the sanctuary neat and clean.
